enal diets traditionally restricted to protein,
phosphate and sodium; a one food fits all kind of approach. Lots of advancements
have been made exceptionally recently examining protein levels and what effect
this has on cachexia in these animals. Sodium levels in cats is a hot topic,
with new studies showing that severe sodium restrictions having a negative
effect on clinical outcomes in cats. The role of the gastrointestinal biome is
proving to play an exceptionally large role in renal patients, ammonium cycles
and digestive abilities in these patients. Many renal diets are now formulated
around a prebiotic carbohydrate nutrient profile.
