More than 60% of all diseases and 75% of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic. Over two million people die annually in low and middle-income nations from neglected endemic zoonotic disease. There are significant gaps in both animal health and public health infrastructure which require improvement. As military medical providers, we must operationalize a One Health approach to prevent the next pandemic and shift the focus of disease control from person-to-person to the person-to-animal interface.
