When a client asks for a prescription to
be filled at an outside pharmacy, veterinarians are
ethically—and often legally—obligated to honor that request. But what happens next can be
complicated. Most community pharmacists aren’t trained in veterinary medicine, and
differences in terminology, dosing, and species-specific needs can
lead to confusion, miscommunication, and even errors.
