This course provides an overview of the swine and equids
chapters of the AVMA Guidelines for the Depopulation of Animals (2026 edition),
with an emphasis on humane, evidence-based decision-making during emergency
depopulation events. Participants are first introduced to the tiered
classification system used to evaluate method appropriateness, followed by
species-specific guidance. In addition to reviewing depopulation methods,
highlights include key planning considerations such as biosecurity, regulatory
compliance, and human safety.
