This course provides an overview of the aquatics
(finfish, crustaceans, and cephalopods) and honey bee chapters of the AVMA
Guidelines for the Depopulation of Animals (2026 edition), with an emphasis on
humane, evidence-based decision-making during emergency depopulation events.
Participants are first introduced to the tiered classification system used to
evaluate method appropriateness, followed by taxa/species-specific guidance. In
addition to reviewing depopulation methods, highlights include key planning
considerations such as biosecurity, environmental impacts, regulatory
compliance, and human safety.
